Target Hops
Target hops are an excellent choice when home brewing. Target hops are from England and were bred in 1972 at the Hop Research Institute. This particular hop was created by combining a female northern brewer with a male golding. The flavor is very British and the aroma is very strong. There is an English floral scent to it and has been described as very intense.
With Target Hops the alpha acid is 10 to 12.5% and after six months of storage in 20 degrees Celsius, there is a 45-55% alpha acids left. These hops are resistant to disease and wilt, as well as powder top mildew.
They are harder to grow, however once sustained they have a very high yield and become very vigorous. They are grown in the later season and are of the alpha variety.
Target hops can be used in dry hopping in conjunction with other whole hops as well. They work well in stronger ales, as well as lagers. Commonly used for the bittering effect in home brew usage and is a very popular hop due to the strong floral aroma.
If you can’t find Target hops you can always substitute with Fuggle or Willamette. These will give similar results and aroma as the Target Hop.
